Greatview Faces Hong Kong Delisting: The Aseptic Carton Maker Sold 11.7 Billion Packs Against 30 To 34 Billion Of Chinese Capacity

I keep asking buyers the same question. Who is your third carton supplier, and can they still ship? Greatview Aseptic Packaging sold about 11.7 billion packs last year. Zenith rates its three Chinese plants at roughly 30 to 34 billion.

The exchange moved on 2 October

Greatview received a letter from the Hong Kong exchange on 2 October 2026. The Listing Committee had decided to cancel the listing. The rule cited was 6.01A(1). It applies when a suspended company fails to resume trading inside 18 months. Greatview shares stopped trading at 9am on 19 February 2025. The deadline to meet every resumption condition was 18 August 2026.

Three conditions were still open on that date. They cover the minimum public float, an independent review of internal controls, and the disclosure of all material information. The exchange set the resumption guidance on 12 May 2025.

A review buys time and nothing else

Without a review the last day of listing would have been 16 October. The listing would have ended at 9am on 20 October. Greatview filed for a review by the Listing Review Committee on 13 October. That stops the clock while the committee looks again. Trading stays suspended until further notice. The board told shareholders the outcome is uncertain.

What the 2025 accounts show

Greatview published its 2025 results on 21 April 2026. Revenue fell 17.1% to RMB 1,857.0 million. The company sold about 11.7 billion packs, down about 15.8% in a year. Chinese sales fell 21.2% to RMB 1,379.7 million. Sales outside China held up far better, down 2.6% to RMB 477.3 million. Net profit was RMB 52.9 million.

The auditor gave a disclaimer of opinion for 2024. It gave a qualified opinion for 2025. Both sit behind the open resumption conditions.

Zenith rates the Chinese plants at 30 to 34 billion packs

Zenith's Global Aseptic Packaging Market Report 2026 names three Greatview sites in China. They are Gaotang, Horinger and Qingdao. Their rated capacity is roughly 30 to 34 billion packs a year. The 11.7 billion packs sold in 2025 is a group figure. It also covers the plants at Halle in Germany and Perugia in Italy. The Chinese sites alone are therefore running at about a third of their rating.

Scale is the point of a converting plant. A laminate line earns its money on long runs of one web width. Short runs raise waste and slow every changeover. A site built for ten billion packs that fills four behaves like a different business.

The market did not fall away underneath them. Zenith puts China at 37,391 million litres filled in 2025. That is up 1.2% on 2024, across 109,036 million packs. A 15.8% drop in packs sold into a market that grew is lost share.

The customer map is the awkward part

Jingfeng Holding bought 70.96% of Greatview on 18 February 2025 for about HKD 2.6 billion. The offer took the buyer and its allies to 97.76% of the shares. That is the public float problem in one line. Zenith records the takeover by Xinjufeng as the end of a 709-day contest. It combined the second and fourth domestic players into a national supplier above 20% share.

The commercial result so far reads as dilutive. Xinjufeng revenue rose 71.61% to RMB 2,928 million in 2025. Net profit fell 76.23% to RMB 43.7 million. The customer logic is awkward as well. Xinjufeng supplies Yili and Greatview supplies Mengniu.

What this means for the market

Buyers treat aseptic carton material as a three-supplier market. Tetra Pak and SIG hold the top two places. Greatview is the main independent choice in China and in parts of Europe. A listing decision does not stop a plant. It does change who will lend and who will sign a five-year supply deal.

Three questions decide what a buyer or an entrant should do next. The first is whether that spare Chinese capacity reaches the market or sits idle. The second is whether Mengniu stays with a supplier its main rival now owns. The third is what a second source really costs once the third one is in doubt.

The listing news is loud. The more useful thing to measure is how much of that Chinese capacity is filling packs at all. Zenith's Global Aseptic Packaging Market Report 2026 carries China at 37,391 million litres and 109,036 million packs for 2025. It also carries the plant, pack and supplier detail behind those totals, market by market. The report page carries a free sample.

Strategic Insights

📊 Analytics & Strategic Insight

A delisting is a share register event. Idle carton capacity is a market event.

The decision most in this industry are avoiding:

👉 Supplier risk is being scored on the wrong document. Buyers read the listing notice and the audit opinion. The number that decides supply is the pack count against the plant rating.

👉 Consolidation removed a choice rather than adding one. Two domestic suppliers became one group above 20% share. A buyer who played the two against each other now has one counterparty.

👉 Spare capacity is a price weapon waiting for an owner. Around 20 billion packs of unused Chinese rating has to go somewhere. It will either be priced into the market or written off.

Here's the full context:

→ 2015 to 2020: Tetra Pak was fined RMB 667.7 million. Its share of Chinese aseptic carton value fell from 80.8% to 52.6%.

→ February 2025: Jingfeng Holding bought 70.96% of Greatview for about HKD 2.6 billion. The buyer and its allies reached 97.76% of the shares.

→ 19 February 2025: Trading in Greatview shares was suspended at 9am. The exchange issued resumption guidance on 12 May 2025.

→ April 2026: The 2025 results showed revenue down 17.1% and about 11.7 billion packs sold, a fall of about 15.8%.

→ Most recent: The Listing Committee decided to cancel the listing. Greatview asked for a review on 13 October 2026.

What this means for aseptic fillers, converters and equipment suppliers:

✅ Carton buyers need a live second source now. Qualifying a new laminate on an installed filler takes months. Starting after a delisting is starting late.

✅ Tetra Pak and SIG gain the easiest share they will get this decade. Chinese volume that leaves a troubled supplier has few other places to go.

✅ Export buyers should look at Halle and Perugia on their own terms. Sales outside China fell only 2.6% while Chinese sales fell 21.2%.

What this means for market decisions:

1️⃣ China stayed attractive while one supplier shrank. Zenith puts 2025 filling at 37,391 million litres, up 1.2%. The weakness is company level rather than market level.

2️⃣ Mengniu is the account that decides the outcome. It buys from Greatview while Yili buys from Xinjufeng. One group now owns both relationships.

3️⃣ An entrant should price the idle rating first. New converting capacity in China competes with roughly 20 billion packs of plant that is already built.

The Zenith view:

The listing decision proves a governance failure and very little about demand. China filled more litres in 2025 than in 2024. The 15.8% fall in packs is share moving rather than a market closing. The investment case turns on one thing. Whoever ends up controlling those three plants has to decide whether to run them or to let the rating lapse.
